Interesting thought, Rod, but as an elected official, Bush is expected to take a stand for the people, not his buddies. Though I hardly expect a man whose position was immorally – nea, illegally – obtained to respect the people he is called to represent. I know it’s a common occurrence for the right-leaning to believe they are right – why else would they be called right? – but when more than half the people in our country consider the war in Iraq to be illegal, how can we allow it to continue? I’ve read both sides of the story about Watada and, while I believe there’s a possibility that he did join the military in order to make this stand, his heart is in the right place and he’s standing behind his convictions. He has offered to serve in Afghanistan and he is willing to serve time in prison. These are not trivial considerations.

To make it clear that you’re honoring a stand, not just promoting a position — how about showing the best of Bush right next to it? Is not Bush also taking a stand for what he believes is best?

It takes a lot of guts and courage to take a stand
like Watada’s. It is amazing and it is so inspiring.
I wonder if we have one million Watadas, what kind of
a world we would have?
